Timothy R. Brick is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at the Pennsylvania State University. His work focuses on the application of modern technology and computational methods in the study of processes of interaction and change across the lifespan. Quantitatively, his work focuses has several foci, including novel applications and developments of multivariate techniques like Structural Equation Modeling using the OpenMx software for Extended Structural Equation Modeling, large-scale analysis of longitudinal brain processes using fMRI and EEG, with a specific focus on dyadic, interactive, and longitudinal methods. Substantively, he studies interpersonal interaction, specifically in conversation, and the interplay of emotional facial expressions during real-life conversational interactions. Technologically, he focuses on machine learning and computer vision methods to support his substantive and quantitative interests, including computer-vision methods for studying facial expression in natural and videoconference conversation, and privacy-preserving methods for large-scale distributed data analysis.
